University Minority Mentor Program

The University Minority Mentor Program (UMMP) is open to all first-year minority
students. The yearlong program provides an opportunity for each participating
student to be mentored by a faculty member who supports, guides and facilitates
the realization of each student's dream. Many planned activities are held each
semester to enhance the protégé-mentor relationship. The effects
of mentoring are dramatic, having a positive impact on student retention, graduation
rates and faculty-student relations. This program is administered by the Office
of the Vice Provost for Equal Opportunity Programs and assisted by a council
of fac-ulty and staff.
