The Major: Students planning a major in botany, either in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, should consult the undergraduate coordinator in botany as early as possible. Students who want a B.S. in botany can pursue one of two tracks of study—the basic or the pre-professional (e.g., graduate school or medical school). Each track consists of foundation and major requirements, as follows:

 Basic Botany Track

Foundation Requirements:

Credits

BSC 2010-2010L and BSC 2011-2011L Integrated Principles of Biology OR BOT 2010 Introductory Botany, and either ENY 3005 Principles of Entomology OR MCB 2000 Microbiology

6-8

CHM 2045, 2045L, 2046 and 2046L General Chemistry & Qualitative Analysis

8-11

Please refer to the Graduate Catalog for graduate course listings.

Biology Education Program: Students who plan to teach biology in secondary schools may major in botany and should consult the undergraduate coordinator.

Interdisciplinary Studies Major in Integrative Biology: The IDS major in integrative biology is for undergraduates who are interested in a broader approach to biology than is available through a major in botany or zoology or other biological science. Pre-professional students, those seeking careers in secondary education, and those with interdisciplinary interests in systematics, ecology, physiology/biochemistry, or molecular biology will be interested in this new IDS major. Please consult the undergraduate coordinator for details. See below.
