Music Education
The Bachelor of Music in music education curriculum (B.Mus.) prepares students to become musicians and music teachers in private life and in the public schools. It is offered in cooperation with the College of Education and includes work in music history, literature, theory, performance, conducting, ensemble and music education.
More than one-half of the students in the School of Music are preparing for careers as music teachers in elementary or secondary schools. In addition, undergraduates interested primarily in performance careers often take advantage of the teacher-preparation curriculum, which fulfills the educational requirements for Florida teaching certification in grades K-12, and in most other states.
Music Education-Choral Emphasis
To remain 'on track' for this major you must meet the following critical tracking criteria. The critical tracking courses appear in bold.
Semester 1:
- 2.5 UF GPA required for sem 1-5
- Complete MUT1121, MVK 1111, MUS 2211, MUS 2241 and MAC 1114 with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 2 hours of (MV_14__) - Performance Principal coursework with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 1 hour of a MUN Ensemble course at 1000 level with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete MUS1010
Semester 2:
- Complete MUT1122, MVK 1112, MUS 2221, MUS 2231 and MUS 1500 with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 2 additional hours of (MV_14__) - Performance Principal coursework with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 1 additional hour of a MUN Ensemble course at 1000 level with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete an additional MUS1010
Semester 3:
- Complete MUT2126, MVK 2221 and MUE 2040 with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 2 hours of (MV_24__) - Performance Principal coursework with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 1 additional hour of a MUN Ensemble course at 1000 level with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete an additional MUS1010
Semester 4:
- Complete MUT2127 and MVK 2222 with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 2 additional hours of (MV_24__) - Performance Principal coursework with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete 1 additional hour of a MUN Ensemble course at 1000 level with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete an additional MUS1010
