2007-08 Undergraduate Catalog
Majors
The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture is an accredited professional degree that qualifies graduates to sit for state licensure. Graduates are well equipped to practice and advance the profession of landscape architecture or to continue in graduate studies. Students take advantage of nationally and internationally respected faculty particularly in the final undergraduate independent project. Student work shows strength in ecologically based planning and design, urban issues and conservation -- all issues of strategic concern in Florida and elsewhere. Most recently, students from the UF landscape architecture program won five state ASLA Awards in 2006.
Educational options include an eight-month internship, focused electives for individual specialization, interdisciplinary studios, competitions, funded research at both graduate and undergraduate levels and interdisciplinary certificates in historic preservation, GIS and wetlands. Studies abroad in landscape architecture include summer courses and an optional fall semester at UF's Paris Research Center.
* Required general education course
This program is limited access. During the spring semester of the sophomore year, students must participate in an exhibit of their work in studio courses. Admission to the junior year is based on this exhibit and the preprofessional GPA.
Summer and Fall Professional Experience: Complete LAA 4940 and LAA 4941 Landscape Internships in the summer and fall of the fourth year of study.
Or
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 is required. Majors must attain a minimum C grade in all LAA courses. A grade of D+ is considered a failing grade and must be retaken until a grade of C or better is earned. In some courses (see adviser) a student may not proceed through a sequence until a C grade is earned.
