The University of Florida admits students as freshmen into the Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. The department offers programs designed to prepare students as specialists in exercise physiology and fitness/wellness.
Exercise Physiology
Fitness/Wellness
The exercise physiology specialization prepares students for a career in the health professions or for graduate study in exercise science. The curriculum provides a strong basic science background and requires additional course work in the biological aspects of exercise. All required courses must be completed before the internship. A maximum of two Cs can be earned in tracking courses. All other tracking grades must be B or better.
The fitness/wellness specialization emphasizes the practical aspects of fitness and wellness. Students become exercise technicians and specialists in hospitals and corporate, private or state agencies. Students must complete a one-semester internship in one of these settings. All required courses must be completed before the internship.

- Complete 2 of 9 critical-tracking courses with a 3.0 GPA on tracking course work: PSY 2012, SPC 2600 or AEE 3030C, CHM 2045/2045L, CHM 2046/2046L, BSC 2010/2010L, BSC 2011/2011L, MAC 2311 or MAC 2233, APK 2100C, APK 2105C, APK 3110C
Semester 2:
- Complete 2 additional critical-tracking courses with a 3.0 GPA on tracking course work
Semester 3:
- Complete 2 additional critical-tracking courses with a 3.0 GPA on tracking course work
Semester 4:
- Complete 9 critical-tracking courses with a 3.0 GPA on all tracking course work
Semester 5:
- Complete APK 3110C

- Complete 2 of 8 critical-tracking courses with a 2.5 GPA on tracking course work: PSY 2012, MAC 1140 or MAC 1147 or calculus, STA 2023, APK 2100C, APK 2105C, APK 2300C, ECO 2023 and HUN 2201. A C grade or better is required in APK 2100, APK 2105C and APK 2300C.
Semester 2:
- Complete 2 additional critical-tracking courses with a 2.6 GPA on tracking course work
Semester 3:
- Complete 2 additional critical-tracking courses with a 2.7 GPA on tracking course work
