German
Description of the Major
The Bachelor of Arts in German provides language proficiency in German equivalent to three years of college German study. Through the study of literature and culture, you gain knowledge of the basic attitudes, trends and traditions of German society today. You will be able to evaluate the significance of information gathered from authentic sources in Germany and/or German, and to apply them effectively. You also will be able to articulate research and reception of target culture in an accepted presentation style.

Before Graduating You Must
  • Successfully complete the International Certification Examination (Zertifikat Deutsch) of functional/professional ability in German.
  • Satisfy the Florida statutory requirements for CLAST.
  • Complete requirements for the baccalaureate degree, as determined by faculty.
Skills You Will Acquire in the Major (SLOs)
  1. Proficiency in German in the third year of language study.
  2. A. Distinguish literary genres and define basic historical genre in German literature.
    B. Identify formal patterns of sound and syntax in context.
  3. Analyze meaning based on genre attributes.
  4. A. Identify strategies for assembling arguments from literary or media texts.
    B. Isolate patterns in linguistic data and apply frameworks toward an analysis.
  5. Locate and use reference tools to add an independent perspective to critical arguments.
  6. Identify premises in argument, judiciously handle materials and effectively communicate independent, critical perspectives in speech and in writing.
