Requirements for Admission

Freshmen

Students classified as first semester freshmen at the university will be admitted when they declare a major within the BSFRC degree programs. At that time, their college classification will become 1FY. These students will maintain the FY classification as long as they continue to meet or exceed the universal tracking standards for their major. Students who fall below the minimum progression standards will not be allowed to continue in the major. Freshman students should take the CLAST in their second semester.

Students Other Than First-Semester Freshmen

All UF students other than first semester freshmen must make a formal application for admission to a major in the School of Forest Resources and Conservation at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences dean's office in 2002 McCarty Hall. Students who already have declared their major must remain on track with the universal tracking standards published in this catalog.

The professional sequence for both majors in the school begins with FNR 3131C (4), which is offered Summer A term only, beginning in May and prior to the normal junior year.

Detailed information on attendance requirements, registration, and dates for the required summer session are available from the school's student services office. Refer to the university calendar for the Summer A application deadline. Course sequencing makes entry at times other than the summer term difficult.

Students who have not completed all of the pre-professional courses in time to enter the junior year during a summer term are advised to contact the school's student services coordinator.

Universal Tracking and Academic Progress

Students should contact the SFRC student services coordinator when they are admitted to the school. They should complete the course requirements for the major in the semester designated. The student's adviser will make any necessary adjustments.

Academic Advising

Upon admission to the school, the student should contact the SFRC Student Services Office for assignment of a faculty adviser. The faculty adviser assists the student in selecting a major and choosing electives. Students should follow the course sequences identified for their major. In the event of course scheduling conflicts, and with adviser approval, students may substitute up to eight semester hours of required courses; this substitution can include only one required FNR course.

Correspondence/Extension Courses

No student may apply more than 18 semester hours of correspondence, extension, or nonresident course work toward the bachelor's degree, of which no more than 12 semester hours may be applied in any one semester or academic year. Any student intending to apply correspondence course work toward a degree must have a minimum junior/senior level GPA of 2.5 and prior written approval.
