Admission Requirements

Admission for freshmen and lower-division transfer students is administered through the university's Office of Admissions. For information on admission guidelines refer to the General Requirements for Admission section in this catalog and/or the Office of Admissions website (www.registrar.ufl.edu/regadmi.htm).

Upper-division Transfer Admission Requirements

The Office of Admissions determines the transferability of credit earned at other institutions. Students may transfer no more than 60 credit hours from community colleges as part of the hours required for a UF degree. The 60 credit hour transfer limit does not apply to coursework taken at four-year institutions. Students who have achieved advanced upper division status, 90 credits or more, at a 4-year institution may not be admitted. Students are encouraged to complete their degree at their current institution and consider the University of Florida for graduate degree programs (See Graduate Programs in Business at www.cba.ufl.edu/gradprograms).

The application deadlines listed in this catalog are strictly enforced (also listed on the web at www.registrar.ufl.edu/application-deadlines.html). Transfer students who do not have a completed application on file, including all required documentation, transcripts, etc., will not be considered for admission and must apply for a subsequent term.

Upper-division transfer students (defined as applicants with at least 60 credit hours) are admitted to the college for the fall, spring or summer A/C term, provided they fulfill the following requirements:

1. An Associate of Arts Degree (Florida community college transfers only)

2. Completion of the CLAST Exam (State of Florida transfers only)

3. Completion of all pre-professional courses with the necessary GPA (2.0 for BABA, 2.75 for BSBA Economics, 3.0 for BSBA CIS, Finance, Management, Marketing, Insurance, and 3.25 for BSBA DIS)

4. Equivalency Forms submitted to the Warrington College of Business Administration Undergraduate Programs Office for pre-professional courses taken at private, out-of-state, or international institutions.

Please note that the Undergraduate Programs Office must have grades for at least three of the seven pre-professional courses before a tentative admission decision can be made. Students must also provide proof that any remaining pre-professional courses will be completed prior to enrolling at UF. The seven courses are as follows:

ACG 2021C Financial Accounting

ACG 2071 Managerial Accounting

CGS 2531 Intro to Computer Software Pkgs

ECO 2013 Macroeconomics

ECO 2023 Microeconomics

STA 2023 Introduction to Statistics 1

*MAC 2233 Survey of Calculus 1

  • *CIS majors must take MAC 2311 Analytical Geometry & Calculus 1. CIS majors are encouraged to complete MAC 2312 Analytical Geometry and Calculus 2 prior to enrollment since many CIS courses require this as a prerequisite.
  • Students who complete pre-professional courses outside the state common course numbering system (students who attend out-of-state, private, and/or international institutions) must submit pre-professional equivalency forms. These forms should be submitted to the staff in 100 Stuzin Hall as early in the application process as possible. Course equivalency forms can be downloaded from the Internet at www.cba.ufl.edu/upo/upo_forms.html.

Preprofessional and General Education Requirements

Courses used to meet preprofessional and general education requirements may not be taken by correspondence or pass/fail (known as "S-U" at the University of Florida). Students who wish to use a course from another institution to fulfill preprofessional and/or general education requirements should first consult with an adviser in the Undergraduate Programs Office.

(top)

Postbaccalaureate Students

Application procedures for postbaccalaureate status are the same for all students regardless of where they received their undergraduate degree, except that former University of Florida students must apply for readmission, while non-University of Florida students apply for admission.

Application forms are available from the Office of Admissions in Criser Hall. Depending on resource and enrollment constraints, students who have received a baccalaureate degree may be admitted for the following purposes:

  • Students who have not received a BSAc, BSBA or BABA degree may be admitted only if they wish to receive a BSBA or BABA degree.
  • Students who have received their BSBA or BABA degree from the University of Florida and who are not applying for graduate programs within the college may be admitted to complete courses for informational purposes only (a maximum of one term).
  • Any student applying for a graduate program within the college may, at the discretion of the graduate program, be admitted to take courses in preparation for admission to the graduate program.

With the exception of the third scenario, admission is selective and subject to the college's resource and enrollment constraints. Meeting the minimum requirements for admission does not ensure admission as a postbaccalaureate student. Students admitted to postbaccalaureate status are required to see an academic adviser to develop an academic plan.

Nondegree Students

Depending on resource constraints, students may be allowed to register as a nondegree (transient) student provided they:

  • Are State of Florida employees who have not attended the university before as degree-seeking students, or
  • Have never applied to the university as degree-seeking students, and
  • Are enrolled currently in a business or accounting program at another state university system institution AND intend to transfer coursework back to their home institution and have a letter from the institution requesting that they be given nondegree status and stating the specific courses they should take.

Students approved for nondegree status are only allowed to register for courses on the last day of drop/add. This is done on a space-available basis. Therefore, depending on course availability, students who must take a specific course for transfer back to their home institution may wish to explore other academic alternatives.

It is important to note that the university does not allow coursework taken as a nondegree student to be used to meet the requirements for a University of Florida degree.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Information on scholarships designated exclusively for business students is available in 100 Stuzin Hall or on-line at www.cba.ufl.edu/upo/scholarships.html.

(top)

College Requirements

Students admitted to the college are expected to assume full responsibility for registering for the proper courses, fulfilling all requirements for degrees and completing all courses. Academic advisers are available at the Undergraduate Programs Office in 100 Stuzin Hall. Students are encouraged to meet with an academic adviser during their first term in the college to establish an academic plan.

(top)

Computer Requirement

As a student progresses through the college, computing needs will change. The functional needs of the first two years will be less than those of the junior and senior years.

Refer to the university's homepage at www.ufl.edu or to the CIRCA webpage at www.circa.ufl.edu/computers for general computer information as well as a link to the college's webpage and specific requirements for each program.

(top)

Software Requirements (all students)

Uniformity of software applications is critical. Group collaboration on projects is the norm; students can easily share documents and help each other if all use the same software. Furthermore, students and instructors may exchange data electronically, so it is important that students and instructors use the same software products.

The following software is necessary for a business degree program:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Office 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0

Students should be competent in these basic products before beginning the program. Additional software may be required for certain classes and specialized needs; for example, for statistical analysis or tax. The instructors will advise students of specialized software requirements.

(top)

Freshman/Sophomore Level

  • Ability to run basic productivity software (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, etc.)
  • Ability to run special purpose software as required by individual instructors (including CD ROM-based software)
  • Send and receive electronic mail
  • Access the Internet
  • Print text and graphics

Refer to www.circa.ufl.edu/computers for specifications. All students must have a notebook computer at the beginning of the junior year. Students begin the coursework for the major at the junior year. A notebook computer is essential for computing capability at all times and all locations.

(top)

Junior/Senior Level

  • Access to computing at any time and any location (portability)
  • Ability to run basic productivity software (word processing, spreadsheet, statistics, presentations, etc.)
  • Ability to run special purpose software as required by individual instructors (including CD ROM-based software)
  • Send and receive electronic mail
  • Access the Internet
  • Print text and graphics

Refer to www.circa.ufl.edu/computers for specifications.

Dean's List

For the fall and spring terms only, students who have earned a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or higher , based on a minimum of 14 semester hours, are eligible for the Dean's List. Students will receive a certificate of recognition for their achievement. Hours taken under the S-U option do not count toward the 14 semester hours required.

(top)

Normal Course Loads

The college's degree programs are full-time programs. Students are encouraged to register for 15 credit hours and are expected to register for a minimum of 12 credit hours (6 credit hours during a 6-week summer session). Students cannot take more than 17 credit hours without first receiving approval via a college petition.

(top)

Internships

Students are encouraged to participate in summer internships during their undergraduate career. Students desiring academic credit for an internship should contact the internship coordinator for their department. Academic credit for internships is offered only under the S-U option. Internships also are available through the college's Center for Retail Education and Research, located in 200 Bryan Hall (www.cba.ufl.edu/CRER). Additional information on internship opportunities is available through the Career Resource Center (www.crc.ufl.edu).
