Recreation, Parks and Tourism – Therapeutic Recreation

Therapeutic recreation prepares students for employment opportunities in clinical and community settings that offer therapeutic recreation services to people with illnesses and disabling conditions. Such settings include general hospitals and rehabilitation centers, psychiatric hospitals and mental health services, nursing homes, correctional facilities and community recreation departments. This option also offers concentration in aging, child life, at-risk youth, and correctional recreation. See departmental adviser for details. To remain ‘on track’ for this major, a student must meet the following critical tracking criteria. The critical tracking courses appear in bold.
Semester 1:
- 2.0 UF GPA required for semesters 1-5
- Complete 1 of the 9 critical tracking courses (PSY2012, SYG2000, CLP3144, HSC3531, PET2320C, PET2350C, (ENC2210 or AEE3033C), (EDF3110 or DEP3053), (SPC2600 or AEE3030C)
Semester 2:
- Complete 2 additional critical tracking courses
Semester 3:
- Complete 3 additional critical tracking courses
Semester 4:
- Complete all 9 critical tracking courses
