Health Science Education – Health Promotion and Wellness

Health promotion provides training for students interested in working as a health educator for employee assistance programs and corporate or hospital-based wellness centers. Many companies utilizing large employee populations have noticed a significant decrease in absenteeism and an increase in work productivity for those employees actively participating in an exercise program. In addition, insurance rates tend to be lower for those employees thus providing an incentive for employers to offer such programs. Students choosing this specialization area are encouraged to seek elective course work within the Department of Exercise & Sport Sciences.
To remain ‘on track’ for this major, a student must meet the following critical tracking criteria. The critical tracking courses appear in bold. All course work must be completed before the internship.
Semester 1:
- 2.0 UF GPA required for semesters 1-5
- Complete 2 of the 8 critical tracking courses (PSY2012, (SYG2000 or SYG2010), (SPC2600 or AEE3030C), HSC2100, PET2320C, PET2350C, HUN2201 and STA2023)
Semester 2:
- Complete 2 additional critical tracking courses
Semester 3:
- Complete 2 additional critical tracking courses
Semester 4:
- Complete remaining 2 critical tracking courses
