Overview
Courses for this major range from genetics to public gardens management and even retail marketing, allowing students to gain both knowledge and hands-on experience in the field.
Practical work experience in the form of internships is required in all specialization tracks of this major. International and study-abroad experiences are encouraged. An annual international horticultural tour is sponsored for the benefit of students in this major.
This major is also offered at the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Plant City, Fla., Mid-Florida Research and Education Center in Apopka, Fla., and West Florida Research and Education Center in Milton, Fla.

Public Garden Management
This specialization prepares students for careers working with people and plants. Florida boasts more than 150 public parks, botanical gardens and theme parks. Restoration Horticulture
This specialization prepares students to apply horticultural-based knowledge to the establishment, management and protection of plant communities. This background will allow students to be proficient in many aspects of applied plant science, including native/rare plant propagation, ex situ plant conservation, weed control, nursery production of native plants, and planting design and specification.
