Academic Learning Compact - Sustainability and the Built Environment
The four-year Bachelor of Science in Sustainability and the Built Environment degree requires you to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the goals of sustainability and the activities of the built environment disciplines, including architecture, building construction, historic preservation, interior design, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning.

Before Graduating You Must
- Complete a capstone or independent research project, present your results to a committee of the program’s faculty and receive acceptable assessment.
- Satisfy the Florida statutes for the College-Level Academic Skills Requirement.
- Complete requirements for the baccalaureate degree, as determined by faculty.
Skills You Will Acquire in the Major (SLOs)
- Demonstrate knowledge of sustainability principles.
- Demonstrate knowledge of research methodologies for the built environment disciplines.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the areas of resource economics, ecology, social and cultural sustainability, ethics and sustainability, and energy and sourcing as they link to climate.
- Demonstrate appropriate level of critical thinking for analysis in decision making: Synthesize information from multiple sources in solving problems for the built environment and apply principles and theories of sustainability to problems in the built environment.
- Demonstrate ability to utilize effective oral communications.
- Demonstrate ability to utilize effective written communications.
- Demonstrate ability to publicly present ideas and solutions to problems in the built environment.
- Demonstrate ability to use a variety of appropriate methods to communicate ideas and solutions graphically.
