Pathways to Teaching
Hours: 18-28 credits, all completed with grades of C or better
The Pathways to Teaching minor requires completion of course work in the professional preparation areas of human development and learning, assessment, classroom management, instructional strategies, curriculum and special methods. Students will have the opportunity to integrate their teacher education course work with actual classroom experience. General, math and science tracks are available.
Admission to this minor requires a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Students must make written application for admission to the minor in G416 Norman Hall, after 60 and before 100 hours earned.
For additional information, students can speak with an adviser in the College of Education (Student Services, G416 Norman Hall) or refer to the College of Education.
Professional Training Option: General 18-credit track
This program is appropriate for students who wish to teach in Florida. This is an alternative certification program, specifically a Professional Training Option (PTO), meant to prepare students for temporary teacher certification in Florida by completing the professional education coursework necessary for certification. Please refer to the Florida Department of Education for more information.
The general PTO minor is open to all undergraduate majors. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and are encouraged to complete the
FTCE - General Knowledge Test (recommended in sophomore/junior year), the FTCE - Subject Area Exam (recommended early in senior year) and the FTCE - Professional Education Test (recommended mid-senior year). Additional information is available from an adviser in G416 Norman Hall.
Note: FTCE tests are not required for award of the minor, but are required for certification.

UFTeach: Mathemetics 28-credit track
This program is appropriate for students who wish to teach mathematics at the middle school and high school levels in Florida. This is an alternative certification program, specifically a Professional Training Option (PTO), meant to prepare math students for temporary teacher certification in Florida. Professional teacher certification is attainable after one year of successful teaching in a Florida public school. Please refer to the Florida Department of Education for more information.
The math PTO minor is open to undergraduate students with majors in mathematics, quantitative science or related fields. Applicants must have completed 60-90 credits to add the minor and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. They also are encouraged to complete the
FTCE - General Knowledge Test (recommended in junior year), the FTCE - Subject Area Exam (recommended early in senior year) and the FTCE - Professional Education Test (recommended mid-senior year).
