2009-10 Undergraduate Catalog
Majors
The B.A. curriculum is designed for students who seek a liberal arts education with an emphasis in the visual arts. There is less emphasis on studio and design studies than in the B.F.A. program, and the curriculum is aimed primarily toward experience and understanding rather than professional specialization or preparation for a career in art or design. A portfolio review will be required of students before admission to junior-level studio courses.
To graduate with this major, students must complete all university, college and major requirements.
Outside School of Art and Art History 3000-/4000-level elective requirement: An elective is any course taken outside of the School of Art and Art History at the 3000-/4000-level. At least 18 hours of electives must be chosen from 3000-/4000-level courses.
Students must take 10 hours of foreign language or show a minimum proficiency in a single foreign language by taking a placement test. If the proficiency is met, it does not reduce the number of credits required for the degree. Foreign language may be taken S-U or for a letter grade, and the minimum grade is C.
