Admission as a Transfer Student

Many degree programs within the colleges of the university have limited enrollment. Transfer applicants who meet UF minimum admission requirements will be referred to the appropriate college for an enrollment decision. Refer to the appropriate major for specific admission requirements and information.

Potential transfers from Florida public community colleges can also refer to the FACTS Common Prerequisite Manual for state university transfer prerequisite course requirements.

Transfer Student: Applicants who have earned at least 12 semester hours of credit following graduation from high school and who have not received a bachelor’s degree.

How to Apply: Transfer applicants must apply online.

When to Apply: Applicants should apply at least six months before the term they plan to enter. Applications can be submitted up to one year in advance. Application deadlines are posted on the admissions website.
Note: In a number of programs, course sequence begins ONLY in the fall term of the junior year. An applicant who delays filing an application may not be able to furnish the necessary records in time for admission to the term desired.

Florida Public Community College Graduates Transferring to UF

New students seeking to transfer directly to UF from a Florida public community college after receiving an Associate of Arts degree. (All other transfer applicants and applicants for readmission should refer to 'Transfer Applicants Without AA Degrees.')

The university subscribes to the articulation agreement between the state universities and public community colleges in Florida: Any graduate of a state-approved Florida public community college is eligible for admission to a state university if the student has completed a university-parallel program and received the Associate of Arts degree.

Prospective transfers from Florida public community colleges can refer to the FACTS Common Prerequisite Manual for state university transfer prerequisite course requirements. Transfer applicants who meet UF minimum admission requirements will be referred to the appropriate UF college for an admission decision. Applicants who exceed minimum requirements are most competitive for admission at the junior level, if space is available.

The AA degree must have been awarded on the basis of

• At least 60 semester hours of academic work exclusive of occupational courses
  (i.e., 60 transferable semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, or an AA degree from an in-state public community college, or 60 transferable semester credits of course work listed in the Florida Statewide Course Numbering System from a Florida nonpublic postsecondary institution.)
• An approved general education program of at least 36 semester hours
• A minimum 2.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) on all college-level academic courses, and
• Completion of two sequential courses of foreign language in secondary school or 8-10 sequential semester hours at the postsecondary level, or documentation of an equivalent level of proficiency.

Transfer Applicants With AA Degrees

Applicants who satisfy the following minimum requirements will be considered for admission at the junior level, if space is available.

• A transcript from each institution attended, regardless of length of attendance or credit earned. Additional transcripts are required as soon as they are available for any work completed after applying to UF.
• A minimum C average, as computed by the university. Any student who has failed to maintain a 2.0 GPA at another institution after completing the AA degree is not eligible for admission.
• Regardless of the average earned, courses completed at other institutions must parallel the curriculum at UF.
• Passing the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) or an approved alternative.
• Applicants seeking admission to a program in teacher education must submit SAT or ACT scores to the Office of Admissions as soon as possible after submitting an application.
• Colleges with enrollment limits can require additional test scores. When other tests are required, the college will contact the applicant.

Junior or Senior Transfers with 60 or more credit hours and no AA degree:
These applicants must satisfy the requirements listed below for freshmen and sophomore transfers (with the exception of the first item – admissibility as a freshman).

Transfer admission consideration at the junior or senior level requires:

• A minimum of 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of acceptable college courses
  (i.e., 60 transferable semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, or an AA degree from an in-state public community college, or 60 transferable semester credits of course work listed in the Florida Statewide Course Numbering System from a Florida nonpublic postsecondary institution.)
• Transcripts verifying completion of the courses (or acceptable substitutes) required for admission by the college. An applicant lacking some prerequisites may be permitted to enroll and to complete these courses if all other requirements for admission are met and if recommended by the college; however, any 1000- to 2000-level courses taken to fulfill admission requirements will not reduce the number of credits required for a degree.
• Applicants admitted ito a degree program who have not taken and completed the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) must complete it or its approved alternative satisfactorily.
  Applicants with fewer than 96 semester hours who are transferring from private colleges in Florida or from out-of-state colleges who have not taken CLAST must satisfy it by the end of the first term of enrollment.
  Applicants with 96 or more hours of transferable credit must have satisfied the CLAST requirement before admission.
• Applicants must have completed two sequential courses of foreign language in secondary school or 8-10 sequential semester hours at the postsecondary level, or document an equivalent level of proficiency.

Transfer Applicants Without AA Degrees

Freshman or Sophomore Transfers with fewer than 60 (13-59) credit hours:
Due to space limitations, UF is not currently accepting lower-division transfer students. Prospective transfer applicants are encouraged to remain at or to transfer to a Florida community college until the AA degree is completed.
