Majors
Economics majors acquire the analytical and communication skills that are useful to careers in finance, insurance, government, management, marketing and medicine. The major is also ideal for students who want advanced training in business through an M.B.A. degree. Economics has become increasingly important in legal analysis; hence, economics is a popular major for pre-law students.
An economics major is also offered in the Warrington College of Business Administration. Students majoring in economics should see an economics adviser during the freshman year.
All CLAS students majoring in economics must complete a course in calculus, STA 2023, ECO 2013, ECO 2023, ECO 3101, ECO 3203 (or ECO 3704) and four economics electives or three economics electives and FIN 3403. ECP 3703, ECO 4905, ECO 4941, and ECO 4970 do not count toward these electives.Students must achieve grades of C or higher in each required preprofessional and economics course.
Course prerequisites are strictly enforced. A current listing of course prerequisites is available each term in Stuzin Hall, Room 267.
Students planning to pursue graduate study in economics should consider a minor in mathematics or statistics or take the following mathematics and statistics courses: MAC 2311-2-3, MAP 2302, either MAS 3114 or 4105 and STA 4321 and 4322. (Students taking advanced statistics might not be required to take STA 2023.)

- 2.0 UF GPA required for semesters 15
Semester 2:
- Complete 1 of 4 courses (ECO 2013, ECO 2023, MAC 2233 and STA 2023) with a 2.5 GPA on critical-tracking course work
Semester 3:
- Complete 1 additional course of the 4 courses with a 2.75 GPA on critical-tracking course work
Semester 4:
- Complete 2 additional courses of the 4 courses with a 3.0 GPA on all critical-tracking course work
Semester 5:
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA on all critical-tracking course work
To remain on track, students must complete the appropriate critical-tracking courses, which will be bold.
