Majors
Art history classes are offered in ancient, medieval, renaissance/ baroque, modern and non-western art. Students who plan to enter graduate study in art history should take courses in all of these areas. At least one course in four of the five areas is required. During their fourth semester, students must submit a one-page statement of goals for continuing as an art history major. Faculty must approve the statement before students will be allowed to register for upper-division art history courses.
At least one course in 4 out of 5 following areas must be completed for a degree in Art History: ancient, medieval, renaissance/baroque, modern and non-western art.
French, Spanish, German and Italian are accepted for appropriate fields of study with approval.
Intermediate level of a foreign language is required, taken at UF with a minimum grade of C through intermediate level. The elementary level may be taken S-U. Substitutions or exceptions require adviser approval.
** Humanities electives include 3000/4000-level courses in history, philosophy, anthropology, classics, religion and literature. These electives cannot be taken in art history. Electives must be listed as humanities courses.

Semester 1:
- 2.0 UF GPA for semesters 1-5
- Complete 2 of 10 critical courses (ARH 2050, ARH 2051, ARH 2401, ART 2305C, ART 2757C or ART 2930C, two ARH 3000/4000-level, beginning foreign language and intermediate foreign language) with a grade of C or better
Semester 2:
- Complete 3 additional critical courses with a grade of C or better
- 2.5 GPA on all critical-tracking course work
Semester 3:
- Complete 2 additional critical courses with a grade of C or better
- 2.75 GPA on all critical-tracking course work
Semester 4:
- Complete 1 additional critical course with a grade of C or better
- 3.0 GPA on all critical-tracking course work
Semester 5:
- Complete 2 additional critical courses with a grade of C or better
- 3.0 GPA on all critical-tracking course work
To remain on track, students must complete the appropriate critical-tracking courses, which will be bold.
