Majors
This major prepares students for careers in agricultural education, agricultural communication and agricultural leadership and training positions in extension, community and government agencies.
Four specializations are offered: teaching, agricultural communication, agricultural leadership and extension education. Each requires a common core of courses in technical agriculture and preprofessional education. Department advisers will help students select electives.

The agricultural communication specialization prepares agricultural communication professionals. Media skills include publications, electronic media, graphic arts, advertising and public relations.
Students must meet department and college requirements and have a minimum overall UF GPA of 2.5. Students also must complete MMC 2100, Writing for Mass Communication, with a C or higher.

The agricultural education specialization provides the basic courses for agricultural teacher certification in Florida. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to enter the teacher education specialization and, during their first semester, attain a passing score on the General Knowledge portion of the FCTE. In addition, graduates must apply to the state's Department of Education for certification.
* Total math required is nine hours.
Agricultural leadership prepares students for entry into agribusiness positions related to human resource management, corporate training and development, agricultural literacy, political interests and commodity service organizations. Course work focuses on a core of agricultural courses plus department courses on leadership theory and strategies, educational/training programs design, professional presentation delivery and interpersonal communication.

The extension education specialization prepares students for positions in the Cooperative Extension Service, as well as other community organizations and government agencies. The course of study will focus on nonformal education, designing educational programs, leadership development, teaching/training methods, and communications.
With the guidance and approval of their adviser, students will select electives in an emphasis area that reflects their career interests and goals (18 total credits).
A four-credit, six-week internship with the Cooperative Extension Service is required.
