Warrington College of Business Administration

Students should carefully note course prerequisites as they are strictly enforced. A current/revised listing of course prerequisites is available each term in the Undergraduate Programs Office, Stuzin Hall, Room 267.

FIN 3403 Business Finance
Credits: 4; Prereq: ACG 2021C and junior standing or ACG 2021C, ECO 2023 and sophomore standing.
The acquisition and management of funds by business. A grade of C or better is required in FIN 3403 to register for required finance major courses.

FIN 4243 Debt and Money Markets
Credits: 4; Prereq: FIN 3403 with a grade of B or higher and ACG 2021C and ACG 2071 or ACG 3481C with a grade of C or higher.
Financial markets; institutions and instruments associated with debt funds; the determinants of the general level and structure of interest rates.

FIN 4414 Financial Management
Credits: 4; Prereq: FIN 4243 and FIN 4504.
An integrative examination of theory and practice of managerial finance; financing, and investing decisions as affected by risk, timing and financial markets.

FIN 4504 Equity and Capital Markets
Credits: 4; Prereq: FIN 3403 with a grade of B or higher and ACG 2021C and ACG 2071 or ACG 3481C with a grade of C or higher.
Financial markets; institutions and instruments associated with equity funds; the mechanics and mathematics of stock prices; security analysis and factors influencing stock values.

FIN 4533 Investments
Credits: 3; Prereq: FIN 4243 and FIN 4504.
An analysis of the underlying theory of investments and its utilization by the individual investor or portfolio manager. Topics include capital market theory, portfolio theory and management, options contracts and interest rate futures.

FIN 4905 Independent Research
Credits: 1 to 4; can be repeated with a change in content up to 6 credits. Prereq: senior standing and previous work in the area selected for research. Admission is by the permission of the department.
A written report or reports will be required.

FIN 4934 Special Topics
Credits: 1 to 4.
Course of variable content providing an opportunity for the study in depth of topics not offered in other courses.

FIN 4941 Internship in Finance
Credits: 1 to 3; can be repeated with change in content up to 6 credits. Prereq: consent of department chairperson.
Applied work in finance. Requires several papers and reports. Will be counted as free-elective credit only.

FIN 4956 International Studies in Finance
Credits: 1 to 4; can be repeated with a change in content up to 12 credits. Admission to an approved study abroad program and permission of the department.
This course is designed to provide a mechanism by which formal course work taken at a foreign university as part of an approved study abroad program can be recorded on the transcript and counted toward graduation at the University of Florida.

FIN 4970 Honors Thesis
Credits: 1††; Prereq: 90 hours earned and 3.6 UF GPA.
A thesis is required for the awarding of the magna cum laude or summa cum laude designation. To qualify for the thesis option, students will normally have completed 90 semester hours of course work (exceptions may be made by the honors coordinator of the student's major department) and must have at least the grade point average (3.6) required for high honors at the time they enroll. The thesis will be reviewed by at least one faculty member chosen by the honors coordinator from the student's major department.

GEB 3113 Principles of Entrepreneurship
Credits: 4; Prereq: ECO 2023.
Practical, hands-on understanding of the stages of entrepreneurial process. Focus on the decision-making process within a start-up company

GEB 4110 New Venture Creation
Credits: 3.
Students are provided with the background and tools necessary to participate in the new venture creation process. Business plans will be developed.

GEB 4117 Fundamentals of New Venture Planning
Credits: 3; ACG 2021C and GEB 3113 with a minimum of B grades.
A study of all the key elements of new venture planning to achieve an understanding of the process involved in the evaluation of new venture feasibility and the development of business plans for new venture.

REE 3043 Real Estate Analysis
Credits: 4; Prereq: ACG 2021C or AEB 3133 or AEB 3144 or BCN 4753 or FIN 2106.
Principles of real estate decision making within the context of our economic, social, legal and political-governmental systems.

REE 4103 Real Estate Valuation
Credits: 3; Coreq: REE 3043.
Approaches and methods of property valuation. Comparable sales analysis, cost-depreciation analysis and income capitalization are emphasized. A professional appraisal report is required.

REE 4905 Independent Research
Credits: 1 to 4; can be repeated with change in content. Prereq: senior standing and previous work in the area selected for research.
Admission is by consent of instructor with approval of the department chairperson. A written report or reports will be required.

REE 4956 International Studies in Real Estate

RMI 3011 Risk and Insurance
Credits: 4.
Identification of various types of risk; principles underlying selection of appropriate means of handling risks, analysis of insurance as a principle means; organization and operation of insurance companies.

RMI 4305 Risk Management
Credits: 4; Prereq: RMI 3011 or senior standing.
Topics include estimation of risk, determination of methods of handling risk, optimal levels of self insurance and deductibles, and estimation of necessary amounts of reserves, insurance contract pricing and analysis of insurance markets.

RMI 4905 Independent Research
Credits: 1 to 4; can be repeated with a change in content up to 9 hours. Prereq: senior standing and previous work in the area selected for research. Admission is by the permission of the department.
A written report or reports will be required.

RMI 4956 International Studies in Insurance
