Unified Early Childhood (Pre-K–grade 3)

This program prepares students for a master’s de-gree or a postbaccalaureate program and rec-ommendation for initial teacher certification. The program includes preparation to teach young children of varying capabilities through professional methods classes and clinical and classroom experiences at two levels: pre-school (to age 4) and pre-kindergarten/primary (age 3 to grade three).

The unified early childhood program also provides a pre-kindergarten handicapped en-dorsement. An endorsement is added to a teacher’s certification to show a specific additional capability. During the three years and just prior to the completion of the program, students are ex-pected to seek certification for First Aid and CPR.

Students who fulfill the requirements for a bache-lor’s degree will not be certified for teacher education until they have completed a fifth year of study. Stu-dents who meet the requirements for the master’s degree and who successfully com-plete the fifth year of studies will receive a mas-ter’s degree and recommen-dation for initial teacher certification. This recommendation ap-plies also to students who complete a post-bacca-laureate program instead of an M.Ed. program.
