Preliminary design of convention chemical processes, including process specifications, siting and layout, equipment sizing, utility and manpower needs, safety and hazard analysis, environmental considerations and economic evaluation. ECH 4664 Advanced Process Design. F.

Computer-aided design using programming systems for planning schedules, steady-state and dynamic chemical plant simulation. Programming and data structures. Process module development project.

ECH 4824 Materials of Chemical Engineering. F.

Relations between microscopic structure and macroscopic mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of organic and inorganic solids. Engineering applications, including corrosion.

ECH 4828 Solid State Processing. S, SS.

The application of chemical engineering principles to processing of solid state materials, particularly electronic device fabrication. Solid state chemistry, bulk crystal growth, thin film formation, photolithography, doping and metallization.

ECH 4912 Integrated Product and Process Design.

The first part of a two-course sequence in which interdisciplinary teams of students learn structured design methods applied to industry-sponsored projects. Topics include: determining productions based on consumer needs, project management, concurrent engineering and system-level design.

ECH 4913 Integrated Product and Process Design II.

Credits: 3.

The second part of a two-course sequence in which interdisciplinary teams of students learn structured design methods applied to industry-sponsored projects. Topics include: detailed design, component specification, prototype manufacturing, acceptance testing and documentation.

ECH 4934 Professional Seminar. F.

Credits: 1. Prereq: Senior standing.

Discussion of issues associated with development of a professional career in chemical engineering. Topics include ethics (presented in a case study format), legal and ethical issues associated with intellectual property, interviewing strategies and presentation skills.
