Gerontology

The Center for Gerontological Studies, which has more than 130 associated faculty from 46 departments, promotes interdisciplinary teaching, research and practice in the field of aging.

A major is available through interdisciplinary studies and course offerings are substantial. The required core course (GEY 4930) is offered at least once a year as Issues and Concepts in Gerontology. Other semesters, the same course number provides a rotating topics course with varying content.

Many departments also offer independent stud-ies/practicum courses for graduate or undergraduate students.

THE MINOR: The center offers a minor for qualified undergraduate students who plan careers in the field of aging, whether or not they will pursue graduate studies in gerontology. Students take the core course and 12 addi-tional hours outside the major.
