Art

The School of Art and Art History offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in art with specializa-tions in ceramics, drawing, electronic inter-media, painting, printmaking and sculpture. It also offers the B.F.A. in graphic design and creative photography. In addition, the school offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in art history and in general visual arts studies, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education (B.A.A.E.). Admis-sion is selective but may be gained at the freshman, sophomore or junior years.

The B.F.A. and B.A.A.E. curricula are intended for students who plan to enter professional careers in fine arts or design, to teach art in public schools, universi-ties or colleges, or to enter graduate study.

The Bachelor of Arts curricula should be chosen by students who seek a liberal arts education with empha-sis upon the visual arts.

Satisfactory Progress

Students in the School of Art and Art History are expected to earn a grade of C or better in all courses taken in the school. No more than one D is allowed in these courses. Students must receive grades of C or better in all pre-professional and specialization courses. No more than one D is allowed in each gen-eral education category.

Preparation for Degrees in Art – Graphic
Design, Art Education, History of Art and Studio Areas

Contact an adviser for more information regarding admission protocols, grade point averages, course selection, program requirements and portfolio and review deadlines.

Admission to the B.F.A. or B.A.A.E. degree pro-grams is not automatic. At the end of the sophomore year or 60 hours, all students must meet minimum GPA requirements and submit a portfolio based upon the previous two years’ art work for admission to the 3000-level course sequence in their concentration. Portfolio deadline for spring admission is November 1 and April 1 for fall admission. The graphic design portfolio deadline is April 1 for fall admission only.

Pre-professional Requirements

All students entering into any degree program must take ART 1802C and 1803C* and complete ARH 2050 and 2051.

Transfer Students: Courses prefixed ART do not transfer automatically and will need evidence of achievement (i.e., portfolio). Only ART 1201C, 1203C, 1300C, 1301C and ARH 2050 and 2051 trans-fer automatically from a community college.
