Your Degree Audit and Course Tracking

What is Universal Tracking?

  • Universal tracking is the university’s academic monitoring system. Universal tracking monitors your completion of courses designated 'critical-tracking courses' with the required GPA and in the semester or semesters indicated. If you do so, you are considered to be 'on track' for the major.
  • Critical-tracking courses are designated on your degree audit by the <<< or ### symbols.

What is the purpose of monitoring a student's course work?

  • The universal tracking system allows you the freedom to explore majors and to receive feedback on your progress in the major so you can find the best academic path to complete your degree.

How does universal tracking help students find the best major?

  • Each fall and spring semester prior to advance registration, the UT system reviews your academic progress and will place an academic HOLD on your record if you have not met the minimum academic standards for your major.
  • A hold impedes registration and requires you to see an adviser before registering.
  • Advisers will help you find a major that is appropriate to your talents and interests.

How do I stay ON Track for my major?

  • Complete the critical-tracking courses indicated by <<< or ### each semester on your degree audit. These courses also are listed in the catalog.

How am I notified if I am OFF Track for my major?

  • The Office of the University Registrar will notify you. Review your HOLDS on ISIS.

How can I find out what the tracking criteria are for other majors?

How do holds affect me?

  • Holds applied before advance registration prevent you from registering without first consulting an adviser to develop an academic plan to complete the critical-tracking courses for your current major.
  • Holds applied at the end of the semester for poor academic performance for two consecutive semesters require you to see an adviser before the next term of enrollment to select a new major and to avoid cancellation of enrollment.

How many terms can I be off track for the same major?

  • If you are off track two consecutive fall and spring semesters you must see an adviser to select a more appropriate major.

How can I change majors?

  • Contact the advising office of the college that offers the major.

What other resources are available to help me select a new major?
