2004-05 Undergraduate Catalog
The B.A. curriculum is for students who want a liberal arts education with an emphasis in music. Other areas of emphasis are in ethnomusicology, music history, music performance or music theory. Students may minor in other subject areas such as English, psychology or history.
Elective Requirement: A minimum of 120 semester hours is required. An elective is any course taken outside of the major. Unless a minor is included, 18 credit hours of electives must be chosen from 3000-/4000-level courses in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) or the College of Fine Arts (CFA).
Students must take 10 hours of foreign language or show a minimum proficiency in a single language by taking a placement test. If the proficiency is met, it does not reduce the number of credit hours required for the degree. Foreign language may be taken S-U or for a letter grade, and the minimum grade is a C; credit may not be obtained through CLEP examinations. A student may select 3000-/4000-level elective credit of up to nine hours from colleges other than CLAS and CFA.
All students pursuing the B.A. must consult a department adviser and get approval before attempting the elective portion of this program.
