Biology Education Program: Students who plan to teach biology in secondary schools may major in botany and should consult the Undergraduate Coordinator.

Interdisciplinary Studies Major in Integrative Biology: The IDS major in Integrative Biology is for undergraduates who are interested in a broader approach to biology than is available through a major in Botany or Zoology or other biological science. Pre-professional students, those seeking careers in secondary education, and those with interdisciplinary interests in systematics, ecology, physiology/biochemistry, or molecular biology will be interested in this new IDS major. Please consult the Undergraduate Coordinator for details. See below.

Accelerated BS/MS Degree Program: Consult the graduate coordinator.

Honors: A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 at the junior/senior level. Students working for high or highest honors must enroll in BOT 4905 for 1 or 2 semesters, respectively, and produce a thesis based upon independent research. Students must carry out the research under the direction of a botany faculty member(s) and prepare a thesis based on the research, which is to be submitted to and evaluated by the student's research advisor and the undergraduate coordinator. Approval for honors work must be secured from the Undergraduate Coordinator before enrolling in BOT 4905.

The Minor: Students need a minimum of 15 semester credits with a grade of C or better. At least three courses (none of which may be individual study), of no fewer than three credits each, must be at the 3000 level or higher. No more than three credits may be for individual study. The undergraduate coordinator in botany has additional information.

Plant Molecular and Cell Biology Minor: Consult the undergraduate coordinator.

General Education: Seven botany courses are authorized for general education. Those recommended for non-science majors (no prerequisites) are Introductory Botany (BOT 2010), Practical Plant Taxonomy (BOT 2710) and Plants in Human Affairs (BOT 2800). Other courses (with prerequisites) are BOT 2011, 3151, 3303 and PCB 3034.
