This course content will provide background information concerning neurologic diseases and disorders that are common to clients evaluated and treated by physical therapists. From a medical perspective, information will include disease description, etiology, pathology, clinical signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, medical management, and precautions or special considerations pertinent to physical therapists. From a physical therapy perspective, specific evaluation and treatment strategies, techniques and approaches will be addressed.

Principles of clinical problem solving in the assessment and treatment of patients with physical disability. Discussions will focus on clinical case studies both from students’ and faculty’s direct involvement in patient care.
PHT 4518 Ethics in Physical Therapy.

This course is a study of values of cultures, families, patients, caregivers, and management and how these can be integrated into the practice of physical therapy. Analysis of moral dilemmas and decision-making. Internalization of professional values through a study of the "APTA Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Behaviors" and the "Florida Practice Act."
PHT 4519 Clinical Problem Solving.

This course covers the basic principles of critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving. Students will review basic models of clinical decision making and analyze each step of problem solving. Students will review the professional literature on decision making and critical thinking in modern health care and physical therapy. Case studies encountered on the previous semester’s clinical will be analyzed during this course. Patient evaluation and care plans will be reevaluated based on current review of diagnosis related literature as well as risk/benefit ratio. Class discussion will promote the development of multiple hypotheses, multiple treatment approaches, analysis of potential treatments using evidence based practice, and reevaluation of outcomes. Students will also present individual case studies.
