CHM 2040 Introductory General Chemistry.
Credits: 3; Prereq: MAC 1147 or its equivalent.
The first semester of the CHM 2040-2041-2045L-2046-2046L sequence. An introduction to the elementary principles of modern chemistry, including units and measures, stoichiometry, energy, chemical calculations, structure and properties of matter, chemical bonding. Unless a student has taken three years of high school mathematics and achieved a score of 550 or higher in the mathematics portion of the SAT, it is highly recommended that MAC 1147 be taken prior to this course. This course is to be followed by CHM 2041 but this will be allowed only if a grade of "C" or better has been earned in CHM 2040. (P)
