BFA in Theatre Production
B.A. in General Theatre
Elective Requirement
B.A. in Theatre: Drama Education

Students enrolled in theatre production: costume design, lighting design and scene design will complete course work in all three areas. Selected independent study, advanced electives and production assignments in THE 4950 focus on the specialization.

Today's theatre design and production depend heavily on complex electronic mechanical systems used in professional theatres, film and TV productions. A portfolio is required. For more information consult the department handbook or an adviser.

  1. B average is required in three of the four: THE 2020, TPP 2202C, THE 2110 and TPP 2232C.
  2. Select six credits of theatre electives during the senior year with adviser approval.
  3. Select eight 3000-4000 level courses (24 credits) from liberal arts, art or music, or an approved minor. B.A. candidates can elect a minor in dance.

Elective Requirement

A minimum of 120 semester hours is required for a B.A. An elective is any course taken outside of the major. Unless an approved minor is included, electives must be chosen from 3000-4000 level courses in this college, outside the Department of Theatre and Dance or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Students must take 10 hours of foreign language or show a minimum proficiency in a single foreign language by taking a placement test. If the proficiency is met, it does not reduce the number of credit hours required for the degree. Foreign language may be taken S-U or for a letter grade, and the minimum grade is C; no credit is given through CLEP examinations. A student may select up to nine hours of 3000-4000 level electives as credit from colleges other than CLAS and CFA.

All students pursuing the B.A. degree must consult the department adviser and get approval before attempting the elective portion of this program.

B.A. in Theatre: Drama Education

The B.A. curriculum with an emphasis in drama education is for students who want to pursue careers teaching drama performance and production in secondary school, grades 6-12. In conjunction with the College of Education, this program prepares students for state certification in drama education.

Requirements include a minimum 960 SAT score or a 20 ACT score and an overall 2.50 GPA with a 2.50 in all junior and senior level CFA and College of Education course work.

Transfer students with A.A. degrees must complete additional courses in the basic distribution, which includes general education courses. Students must earn grades of C in these courses and they cannot be taken S-U.

The speech requirement is met with TPP 2110 and 3111. The reading requirement is met with RED 3312. The introductory education and technology courses are EDF 1005 and EME 2040.

Critical tracking criteria appears in bold. These courses must be completed in the term specified to remain on track.
